Falling into Fitness


Group-Fit
As we transition from summer to fall, the Dance Centre has made a few schedule adjustments to accommodate new classes and we've added some surprises!

The Summer Fit Challenges went SO well that we extended them into the Fall with the last challenge of the year ending October 12th.  But because our morning classes (6am Group-Fit) have become requested, we will continue offering the 6am as a Group-Fit apart from a challenge!!



Since 1982, the Dance Centre Academy of Adult Dance & Fitness has provided an outlet for adults who want to begin or continue dance and/or fitness in a private studio setting. The only specialty studio of its' kind in the B/CS area!! The Dance Centre is not a “gym” where you will have class distractions and interruptions. Getting fit doesn’t have to be about “boot camps” and hard-core fitness programs. Our program offers high intensity - but in a safe "age appropriate" level that boot camps & some personal trainers do not!

Are you looking to shed a few pounds, increase your energy level or simply start living a healthier lifestyle?

The Dance Centre Group Fitness class (Tues & Fri 6am)  is for beginner and intermediate exercisers. Two weekly training sessions will include High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) & strength/balance exercises tailored to meet each individual's fitness level. These sessions are designed to target 6 areas of personal fitness: body composition cardiovascular & muscular endurance, muscular strength, balance and flexibility.

This class may include walking, jogging, hand weights, therabands, fitness balls, kick boxing, agility exercises, pilates exercises, & cardiovascular exercises to get the heart rates up.  These classes are designed to give you a maximum workout but without pushing you to the point of making you sick like some trainers do! We encourage - we don't push!!

YOGA
Namaste!!!  Yoga continues to be well attended class at the Dance Centre with leading instructors that have experience, professionalism, knowledge & certification.

We offer Yoga Monday 630pm; Tuesday 930am; Wednesday 630pm; Thursday 930am; & Saturday 9am.
The saturday class is a Prenatal safe class - or a gentle yoga class for the mainstream yogi's looking for a slower pace, less intense workout.

We began teaching Yoga Baby - a class designed for new mom's with pre-crawling babies - the class meets Saturdays 745am - the instructor, Shelley, is a practicing labor & delivery nurse with loads of background in this area - she is also currently an instructor in the nursing classes at Texas A&M University.  Bring a mat, the baby and all the baby accessories you need to make it thru an hour away from home!

We have two other Yoga classes that we are attempting to activate if we can get enrollment up, we will offer Mom & Me Yoga (mom and 3-4 yrs olds) T/Th 1-130pm; and an Active Yoga for adults 130-230pm. PILATES
We continue to offer the only Pilates Reformer Group classes in the Brazos Valley. We have 7 Reformers, 6 chairs, and numerous other Pilates apparatus that is used in these classes. We currently offer these classes M/W 930am; T/Th 530pm; and Sat 11am.  Limited space available in current schedule but have plans to expand classes as needed so call us if you are interested in building your core and strengthening your muscles!


DANCE
Our Ballet class has continued to grow to the point that we've added to the already existing class on Saturday 10am - a class on Tuesday 630pm.

Cardio Dance-fit - Monday 530 - our answer to Zumba (all latin) and ours is original choreography to all kinds of popular music - a high energy - high intensity workout with lots of low impact options.

Burlesque-Fit - Wednesday 530pm - a high intensity cardio workout with a sassy, flirty flair - with a choreographed "dance" built in! Often uses props like boas (therabands, chairs & canes.

Barre-Fit - Thursday 630pm - Sculpt and Tone your body with a class structured in a foundation of ballet and pilates. Its NOT a ballet class though so totally appropriate for everybody!

QiDance - a new dance craze circulating the globe - we have a trained instructor on site and we are offering this for FREE on Mon/Wed 830am. Its a cardio dance class that is dancier than Zumba - with original "world" music and choreography. Its completely Free to ANYONE - and will always be free as long as we maintain a minimum attendance - so if you haven't tried it and LOVE to dance, please come! You don't need a reservation or advance notice - just show up!

Tap - Come tap your troubles away on Wed 1030am - all levels welcome - lots of options offered - basic steps and combinations and some choreography presented. Fun for all!!

Jazz Fusion - Offered Tuesday 730pm - a mix jazz class that may offer hip-hop, classical, funk, broadway, lyrical, and more. All levels welcome - lots of options offered. Fun, energetic workout for all!

Belly Dance Monday 730pm - Beginners - Learn the basics and get a great workout!
                             Thursday 730pm - Intro to Tribal Fusion - advance your belly dance knowledge by learning a new form of belly dancing! This class is intended for experienced belly dancers.




It doesn't matter what you do - but that you DO something. So come join us. We are a privately owned studio with 30 years of experience. We are certain that we offer something for everyone (adults that is!)

FIT CHALLENGE & MORE



After the launch of our Fit Trio Classes (Cardio Dance-Fit, Burlesque-Fit & Barre-Fit) we began to create a plan for a summer Fit Challenge. The idea is to provide an outlet for ladies who aren't comfortable in gym settings or boot camps - to have fun classes for both mind and body - give insights into goal setting and journaling for those interested in weight loss.

On Friday June 15, we began our first Group Fitness class to kick off our first 36 day Fit-n-Lose Challenge! Meeting at the studio at 6am, our fitness expert & personal trainer Gretchen put us through our paces that began with some walking exercises and then moving into the studio for an hour of moving, jumping, dodging, lunging, marching, pushups on a ball, planking, crunching and so much more! After the workout we had our first Fit-Chat.



In the Chat we got information on how to Track our progress by journaling our food intake and output - encouraged to be honest about food measurements and reading labels. Everyone was measured and weighed ... And Gretchen went over the Point Challenges and how we will earn points in order to be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the 36 day Challenge.

On Monday, the ladies will begin taking classes depending on which Option of the Challenge they chose. Some will participate in the FIT TRIO classes this week while others will choose 3 Yoga classes of their choosing.

The good news is that nobody will lose out on participating - we will offer a new Fit-n-Lose Challenge every Friday thru July 20th so pick your 36 days and come join us. The cost is $216 or pay with cash/check and we'll discount that to $199 - - that's less than $7/day and you'll be on your way to a healthier fitness lifestyle! March got us through spring break and now we look forward to April bringing new "FIT" classes into the schedule!


Cardio Dance-Fit is an ongoing Cardio class on Monday at 730pm - if you've never done the class before you can try the class out on our $5 trial. Ask us about it when you come and we'll explain how it works!

Burlesque-Fit is a new class that came about after numerous inquiry requests for pole dance classes. Well we just don't have the space for any more equipment and frankly I think there might be more liability involved so we decided to compromise and offer a fun flirty fit class instead! We are offering a free demo class Wed April 4 @ 730pm and the class will be at that time going forward. The class will be 8 classes for $115 however, if you sign up on the Demo evening, we'll give you the 8 classes for only $98!

And as our third new "Fit" class, we'll be offering Barre-Fit (similar to Xtend or Sculpting classes) - there will be a free demo class on Thursday April 26th 730pm ... and the class will be at that time going forward. 2012 February Updates

Our goal this year is to offer a special event of some kind each month - so stay tuned! November we featured "PT Yoga" (Post-Turkey), December we had a Yuletide Yoga event and in January offered a New Years Reflective Event. February is Valentines Month so we are offering the Partnering Yoga! March has a week of Spring Break which we will be closed (No classes from Mar 9-17) but hope to bring back at least one Mind-Body Mashup Event before the end of March. (event that includes a blend of yoga, pilates and some tai chi flow all set to choreographed music)


February Heart Event - Valentine Duets Yoga!!
We'll be offering a class for couples/partnering yoga on Monday Feb 13th 630pm ... and a Prenatal class for partners on Tuesday Feb 14th 630pm.  Bring your spouse, partner or friend! The cost is a $12 class credit per couple for Dance Centre members and $20/couple for non-members.

February 11th (sat 1pm) is our Hip-Hip Hooray Contest for designing a belly dance hip scarf from a crocheted scarf! We are also hosting a dance contest for the makers wearing their designs. If you are not a registered participant, you are welcome to come join in the festivities and help us vote to decide who has the best hip scarf design, best dance and best overall! And we'll have some other fun and surprises as well. Join us!

We have a few prime slots open in our schedule - with a minimum of 6 enrolled, we can start up any class you want! You tell us what you want to do and we'll try to make it happen.

Monday 530 time slot is open - we used to have Adult Ballet and could easily start that up again - or add a Pilates Reformer Group Class.

Wednesday - we began offering an Extended Yoga from 6-630 for our Members a couple months ago and so far we are still gaining interest in that. It is a 30 minute focus on one aspect of yoga - time for working on that one pose or asking questions and getting more individual assistance on proper alignment in poses. It might be meditatative, restorative yoga, or a focus on a chakra or asana. Our instructor (Gretchen) tries to bring something new to yogis to try or think about - anything to encourage you to keep your options open.

This past week was a focus on the heart - appropriate for this Valentines Month of heart related topics! If you choose to participate in this class, you must arrive promptly by 6pm. The door is closed and late-comers are not allowed in. The will have to wait for the 630pm class when we open the door to let them in. We encourage all members to give this extended class a try! Wednesday 630 class has evolved into more of a level 2 class, however we welcome beginners and level 1 to come and simply modify. Remember this is YOUR workout. Only you know your body and what its capabilities are. If you are beyond a Level 2, its up to you to push yourself beyond or if a beginner, always take lesser-slower-easier options!

Thursday 730pm is Open - we could do a Pilates Reformer Group Class, a jazz class or add a new Partnering Yoga class which we would LOVE to see happen especially after our Valentines Event! We just added the Saturday 11am Pilates Reformer Group class and it seems to be filling very quickly. We can always open up a 12noon class on Saturday to accommodate as well.

We want to try to offer what you want. Being a private studio (we are not a GYM), our focus is on quality of instruction not quantity. Our classes are not jam packed but held to a minimum that our instructors can accommodate. We offer professional instruction to the adult community - though we get a few sprinkling of college students, they are not our target market. As an adult facility, we allow for trials of classes but not watching classes. Experienced students can try one walk in class ... non-experienced can purchase a two trial class pass - they are not eligible for one time walk in fee. We feel that taking a new class you have no experience in only one time really doesn't give that class genre a full chance - usually after a 2nd class you'll have a much better feel for what the class holds in store for you.

Remember that NEW STUDENTS can attend a trial Cardio Dance class anytime by paying $5 before the class. If after the class you decide its not for you, then it only cost you $5. If, however, you decide before leaving, that you want to sign up for the class, we will apply that $5 to the 8 wk fee and you walk out having the trial class FREE.  All you have to do is mention our $5 Cardio Deal.

Dance Centre website has a facelift!



While we still have another month and a half to finish the Fall Semester, we've already begun to plan and post our Summer class schedule!  A few things leave us for the summer (Tap, Jazz, Modern) - some new things are added: Prenatal Yoga and Cardio Dance Classes - and most other classes stay the same!
